Y&R Mexico

These were exhilarating times for me. I had just graduated college and was launching into a career in the fascinating world of advertising. In this picture I am standing with the 1971 Y&R creative team from Mexico City. These great men and mentors – Nick Mendoza*, Jesus Mendez, & Fernando Fragoso – were brilliant communicators during the Peace and Love movement.

McCann & Erickson

McCann-Erickson, Mexico City, circa 1973, voted top ad agency at that time. By then I had made Jr. Art Director. At McCann-Erickson I was exposed to the exciting world of photography, and I also discovered the amazing behind-the-scenes world of shoots for TV spots while working on brands like Coca-Cola, GM, KFC, Bimbo, and many more.

Leo Burnett

In 1976 I was offered the Art Director position at Leo Burnett. I was entrusted with more responsibilities and I was asked to manage international accounts like Pepsi, Marlboro, Knorr, and Procter & Gamble. I worked with – and was mentored by – the talented, and great friend, Creative Art Director Manolo Ortiz. At Leo Burnett we enjoyed working within the wonderfully bohemian Zona Rosa in Mexico City.

Darcy, McManus & Masiuss

In 1978, now as Senior Art Director I had the great pleasure of filming with creative Roberto Manzano, a memorable and first, Johnnie Walker commercial with then Playmate of the year, Patti McGuire. Darcy, McManus & Masiuss, was the agency of record for Colgate-Palmolive, Cerveceria Cuauhtemoc, Pedrages & Co., and others.

Walter Thompson

At Walter-Thompson I was part of a creative duet with my esteemed colleague Augustin Corona. We were primarily dedicated to Ford Motor Co. & Warner-Lambert. I lived through unforgettable shoots in California for Mustang, Crown Victoria LTD, and Ford trucks. We were working with spectacular filmmakers like Carl Futura, Lazlo Kovacs, Pedro Torres, and many more. And the postproduction teams were also incredible. A truly magnificent era.

Brooklyn NY

In 1996 I decided to move to the US and chose New York as my new home. Brooklyn has been my headquarters ever since. However, I have worked with practically every ad agency, not just in the New York, but across the US. I have literally crisscrossed the US with my work as illustrator and storyboard artist. And I look forward to continuing to do this beautiful work I so very much enjoy.
